Our rules are simple and easy to follow. Please be sure to do so, or consequences will have to be taken, and we do not want to do that.
[li]God-moding characters that are not your own is absolutely forbidden. For those who don't know, god-moding is basically taking control over another persons character without permission. If you have been given permission to god-mode a character then please put a note at the bottom of your post. If you are caught god-moding then the Staff will decide upon a punishment, depending on the severity of the god-mode.
[/li][li]Good grammar is one thing that is expected from members. Without good grammar, a post can be quite hard to read and understand. We understand that English is not the first language of some members but Staff Members are always willing to help. We have Staff in Estonia, America and England so, while we can't guarantee that Staff will always be there to help, someone will probably be online. If no Staff are online then I'm sure that another member would be willing to help. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Also check the site, there are links to translation websites in the Site Bulliten's Help thread.
[/li][li]Chat-speak is strictly prohibited in IC (In Character) posts and we ask for it to be kept at a minimum in OOC (Out Of Character) posts also. Nobody enjoys looking at one of their posts and discovering that the other person replied using chat-speak. Give people the respect of just typing out a few more letters and writing properly.
[/li][li]Please respect other members. In Character fights are allowed, and indeed expected, since Slytherins and Gryffindors despise each other. For example, Adrian would insult Solitaire merely because she is a Hufflepuff but if I were to insult her in an OOC discussion for the same reason then I would be severely punished. It's simply not allowed. And Taire - don't worry about me insulting you, if I did then I'd have to kick myself off Staff and ban myself from the site. Which wouldn't be enjoyable for anyone, least of all me.
[/li][li]If you respect others, then they will respect you. Basically, be nice to everyone and that will make the site enjoyable for you and everyone else. No one wants to post with someone who doesn't respect them and insults them at every opportunity.
[/li][li]Closed threads mean exactly that - they are closed. Private owls mean that they are private. Please respect that and don't read private owls or enter threads that are either closed or intended for someone else. Such threads will have ((Name/Closed)) in their title. If it has been okayed with the members of a closed post that you can join them, please make an out of character note of this so that staff will know. There may be consequences for spamming in closed posts if you have not been invited.
[/li][li]If you have any problems - someone bothering you, harassment, anything at all - then don't hesitate to inform a Staff Member, via PM if you don't wish to bring it up openly. We are here to help you and to make sure that the site is running smoothly. If anyone is being harassed by another member then we will intervene, using discretion and tact at all times.
[/li][li]This will be a PG-13 site. That means no swearing and no mentions of drugs or alcohol. If a thirteen year old can't do it in real life, your character can't do it either. Also nothing vulgar. No one wants to be reading a post where suddenly the two characters begin "making-out" or going even farther. Simple signs of affection such as a kiss on the cheek, a hug, or even holding hands are fine. Relationships happen, no one cares to know just how far they go though.
[/li][li]No pictures in your characters signature, since they tend to slow down the site for some people. You may however have an image that represents your character's handwriting. ie: Prof. Hawthorne's. A signature like this as long as it's not horribly big does not usually affect the site. No Harry Potter book quotes. The signature and personal text is meant to relate to your character so be sure to use something that suits your character. The only exception to the rule about quotes is if your character is a book character, since the book quotes make up their personality. If at any point you become unsure about your signature, please ask Staff. It's what we are here for, and we are more than happy to help
[/li][li]The common rooms are password protected. If you wish to give the password of your common room to a member of a different house then please ask permission from a Staff Member and wait for our decision. If password sharing gets out of hand then the common rooms will be switched so that only members of that house can see their common room. Your common room password will be PM'd to you by a staff-member after your character has been approved. Something you should always remember is to never tickle a sleeping dragon. (you may see this somewhere again. please remember it)
[/li][li] No spamming. You guys know everyone hates this. No one wants to see someone just up and enter their posts, or post somewhere with something that just makes absolutely no sense. Randomness is allowed in the General Board, this is the only place it will be allowed. Spamming will result in consequences.
[/li][li] Impersonating any member or staff without strict permission pmed or posted in Staff is unforgivable. If this is ever brought to staff's attention, consequences will have to be given. Consequences for impersonation will vary depending on severity of the impersonation.
Character Rules
[/li][li]No vampires, anime heroes, demons, ninjas or anything of the sort. If you submit a bio that involves any powers or history that shouldn't be there then you will be asked to redo it. If we think that someone has figured out a working plot then we may consider allowing you to have animagi, occlumency or metamorphmagi powers or allow you to become a werewolf or have veela-blood in you. Unless you have proved that you are an amazing poster who can handle such responsibility - you won't receive such things. The same goes for Death Eaters and canon characters - you can't be a Death Eater or be related to canon characters.
[/li][li]Please People, no perfect characters. There are no perfect people in this world, regardless how perfect someone looks, if you look deep enough you will find a flaw somewhere. So no perfects alright. These will be immediately asked to be changed.
[/li][li] We understand that various shades of red, auburn, black, blonde and brunette happen in real life. (hey my hair has natural burgandy in it) But we do ask that you try to keep your character's hair a normal shade. No greens, blues, purples, pinks..etc in the biographies. When writing a post and your character wants to temporarily have say blue streaks in her ebony hair, this will be fine, but these descriptions are to be done in the character's post, not as a permanant part of the biography. The character's hair is naturally ebony, and that is what we expect the biography to say.
[/li][li]The only pets that your character may have are toads, cats, rats, owls, pygmy puffs and puffskeins. A character can only have one owl and one other pet. Staff reserves the right to give permission for unusual pets. Unusual pets will be handed out to those whom Staff see as worthy and deserving players.
[/li][li] Please keep wand cores Canon.
Canon Cores are Veela Hair, Phoenix Feather, Unicorn Tail Hair, Dragon's heartstring. I know these aren't many choices, but they are all we have. Wand woods can vary, for there was no set types of what these definately had to be.
[/li][li]The rules established in the Harry Potter books also apply to the site. No brooms for first years, anyone below third year isn't allowed in Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest is off limits. You will be punished if you are caught in Hogsmeade, for first and second years, and anyone in the Forbidden Forest will be punished. f you are caught of course. Kris is definitely planning on enjoying himself in the Forest. But even if he has the post closed - there ANY professor may enter it at ANY given time and Kris won't have a choice but to adapt his own plans to fit with the professors post and has to go through the punishment given to him. But if our thread is good enough who knows? Maybe professors will let it slip once if you keep such a trip a secret in other IC posts.
[/li][li]Enjoy yourself! This site was created for that reason and nothing would bring us greater pleasure than seeing that people do enjoy our site.
Consequences for breaking any rule will be decided depending on rules broken.
